The Update Manager tells you which updates are available. Click on Install Updates to install them:

Specify your password:

The updates are being downloaded and installed (this can take a few minutes):

When the update is complete, click on Close:

Then close the Update Manager:

The orange software update icon is now gone. The system is up-to-date.

As a suggestion, I'm extremely happy with Virtualbox from Innotek. Especially it's snapshot feature is wonderful.

And to boot, it's free, and no registration needed!

In fact, that's exactly the one I run Windows XP under. (Frightening thing is that XP on Linux with half the available memory runs FASTER than Vista did on this box when it was the only thing running. 512M for XP runs faster virtually than 1G for Vista natively?!? I took the virus known as Vista off immediately.)

I'm not sure about the rest of you web developers out there, but a bad FTP client costs me tons of time. I've always used FileZilla under Windows and it has served me almost flawlessly, but when switching to Ubuntu, gFTP was all I could find. Needless to say, gFTP is completely unsatisfactory -- no offense to those working on it -- but I simply cannot get anything done with it's clumsy interface and many bugs (you can't even drag and drop!).

Luckily, as of 9-8-07, FileZilla 3.0.0 has been released and a Linux version is available. It seems to work perfectly! Drag and drop, split folder/file view, site manager (it even imported my sites from the Windows version of FileZilla 2), and more. I am impressed and ever so thankful! Back to work!

You can get a copy here http://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=client
