There's one additional thing we must do to make Sugar work (otherwise it won't start, see http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Talk:Community/Distributions/Ubuntu). Open a terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal)...
... and run the following command:
gconftool-2 -s /desktop/sugar/desktop/favorites_layout -t string ring-layout
That's it, we can now start to use Sugar. Log out of your current GNOME session:
On the login screen, click on Options in the lower left corner and click on Select Session...:
Select Sugar and click on Change Session:
Then type in your username and password:
You can now select whether you'd like to make Sugar your default desktop environment or just for this session. I suggest you select Just For This Session so that you can test it first:
This is the Sugar welcome screen where you can change Sugar's colour if you like. Then click on Done:
