Running Linux Live-CDs On Windows With MobaLiveCD This article is a short introduction to running Linux Live-CDs with MobaLiveCD. MobaLiveCD is a standalone Windows application (i.e., you do not have to install it - it runs by clicking on the executable) that uses the Qemu emulator to run Linux Live-CDs on your Windows desktop.

Running Linux live cd via moba is way slower comparing to booting from the actual cd or usb. Even though I tested in a system with 2GB RAM.

MobaLiveCD does not make any sense to me, easy way is just to insert the CD and reboot the system. I don't see that current generation user cannot have the CD drive :) and in this case user can use this application but surely this will not give the true experience, will make the entire system slow.

thanks

Also this would be great when you havnt access to the cdrom drive or cdrom booting is disabled in a public place like internet cafe or library.

MobaliveCD can be used to run a live CD prior to actually burning the iso image to CD.  I teach Linux and show my students how to take a SLAX image and modify it with MySlaxCreator.  My students make a new iso image and test it with MobaliveCD.  If their version of Linux does not do exactly what they want it to do, then they repeat the process of making a new iso image with changes and test it again with MobaliveCD.  After they are completely satisfied with their work, then they burn the iso image to CD.  It is slower than running it directly from CD but in a testing environment where they might make 20 changes in one class period, testing with MobaliveCD is mandatory.

But on this system:::

Operating System   System Model
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600)   VIA Technologies, Inc. KT600-8237
Processor a   Main Circuit Board
1900 megahertz AMD Pentium III
128 kilobyte primary memory cache
512 kilobyte secondary memory cache
  Board: KT600-8237
Bus Clock: 166 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG 08/26/2003
Drives   Memory Modules
71.06 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
41.01 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space

HITACHI DVD-ROM GD-7500 [CD-ROM drive]
TDK CDRW5200B [CD-ROM drive]
3.5" format removeable media [Floppy drive]

Maxtor 6E040L0 (41.11 GB) [Hard drive] -- drive 0
Maxtor 93071U6 (30.02 GB) [Hard drive] -- drive 1
  512 Megabytes Installed Memory

MobaLive is waayyyyy tooo slooooooow to be of much use. I've tried it with PCLinuxOS 2010 (where I found MobaLive suggested) and, now with Open Solaris with absolutely no luck at all. Quite dissapointing!

I guess I'll have to just keep making Live CDs!
