With this stable release of the Android SDK, you can now develop applications for Android smartphones (like T-Mobile's G1) and offer them on the Android Market.

That is great. But I have a question. After the jdk6.0 was installed, the "javac" command was not contained in the /sun-java6-bin/bin folder.
Great walk through!
Great posting. very helpful tips.
Re: Great posting. very helpful
yes i think so
"To install Eclipse, we must open a Terminal again"
but later:
"Obviously, we don't want to do this from the command line"
I can't figure out what the point of this is. You don't use the helpful GUI compression program, even when offered. Yet you won't even run a program from the same command-line.
Furthermore, this all seemed fairly obvious. What would have been helpful would be showing how to use my own editor to build Android apps.
This is basically what Google provides in their documentation:
Currently there is a newer version of the SDK out: How to install Android SDK 1.0_r2 with Eclipse
