Comments on Getting Started with LibreCAD
Linux isn't known for having many professional-grade linear drawing and engineering design tools. Dassault's DraftSight is the only choice in that part, but paying a few hundred bucks is maybe not the best option for everybody out there. Thankfully, the rich world of free software isn't leaving us alone in this sector either, and one of the most popular solutions to help you get your designs ready is the amazing LibreCAD. It may not be as sophisticated as other well-known tools, and it may not boast the time-saving features of commercial solutions, but it will certainly do the job in most cases. Here is a guide on how to get started with it and how to design a round flange with drill holes.

Bricscad.
DraftSight is also available for free on Linux and if your are looking for advanced features such as 3D Solid Modeling or productivity tools you can also buy the full ARES Commander from Graebert that is the engine behind DraftSight.
LibreCAD is opensource. That's the main advantage I could find but for professional use the free version of DraftSight has already more to offer starting from the ability to save natively in DWG that is the standard if you like to share files with other professionals.
Nice! I did the exercice :-)
See also FreeCAD for 3D capabilities.
> If the grid isn't dense enough to find the right point for the second line mirroring, insert the right value through the command line again.
I found that, even if I zoomed, my grid couldn't be dense enough to find that *right* point (an exact one, not an approximated one). So I made an additional hole in the flange (so there were five, equally spatiated). Then I could do a *precise* mirroring, and later I only had to delete the two extra "holes" (one at the upper side and one at the lower side).
Thanks!
which format should i save a drawing in?
I'm learning to use LibreCad, but in my version in the drawing preferences block I cannot open the isometric setting. In the grid options there is no possibility to make a choice between an othogonal or isometric setting. On an other PC this fonction works perfectly. Both PC are laoded with Windows 10. (Asus 64 bits, HP ditto)
Who can help me ?
Thanks in anticipationGerginus
An easier way to do the holes would have been to choose multiple copies value of 7 and an angle of 45deg in the rotation dialog. No need to redo the modify rotate steps and no need to mirror.
I have downloaded LibreCAD onto my Windows 10 Laptop. This has clearly been a massive undertaking and looks really promising. However for me it failed on acceptance testing. The layer's functions do not seem to work as advertised. I can create layers but I cannot list them, nor can I select a layer to add to it or edit it. A bit disappointing as I have put in the effort reading what I can find and would like to have used it but if the fundamentals cannot be made to work..... Am I missing something? Is it a Windows compatibility issue?
