Comments on Skype Workarounds on Linux
Skype on Linux is a much debated topic that unfortunately remains largely unchanged. Skype is something that most people just have to use, but the client’s official support for Linux is pathetic to say the least. However, there are some workarounds that can work for Linux users depending on the particular system used and the specific needs.

Hey!Just to add... there's a skype alpha app which is pretty updated, but it's far from stable.
deb [arch=amd64] https://repo.skype.com/deb stable main
and install skypeforlinux
Eudald
It has been years since Skype, in general, and on Linux, in particular, has become more trouble than it is worth.
forget skype, a better alternative for Linux is discord (discordapp.com), it has a web interface and a native client, the native client for Linux is still in beta and you'll have to go on discord's Reddit page, the link is there, it's called discord canary
Yeah man the new Skype for linux alpha is very stable and basically ONLY lacks screensharing.

"Modern UI"???? Oh please, Bob spare us from the abomination that is the Modern/Metro/Material design. The fact that some project uses that look is reason enough to never use it.
