Comments on Encrypt Your Data With EncFS (Ubuntu 12.10)
Encrypt Your Data With EncFS (Ubuntu 12.10) EncFS provides an encrypted filesystem in user-space. It runs without any special permissions and uses the FUSE library and Linux kernel module to provide the filesystem interface. It is a pass-through filesystem, not an encrypted block device, which means it is created on top of an existing filesystem. This tutorial shows how you can use EncFS on Ubuntu 12.10 to encrypt your data.

Cryptkeeper is a nice GUI to use EncFS in Ubuntu 12.10 but needs a small work around. Just install using Ubuntu Software Center
In Ubuntu 12.10, some panel icons ( system tray applet icons) like cryptkeeper won't appear. To make it visible follow the below procedure
Press Super (Windows) key. Type dcon
Select dconf Editor > com > canonical > unity > panel > systray-whitelist['all']
Close it
Restart computer
