Hi,
just want to share my opinion on the article. I followed the instructions in the how-to, which screwed my multimedia (for example: the firefox stopped playing some contest). After additional digging I found another article which appears to be more consistent and gives more details: http://ubuntutip.googlepages.com/home and it helped me to get back all the multimedia functionality.
Although I found all additional repositories (mentioned on that page) before it helped me to sort out the difference between gstreamer vs xine engines and other codecs, and what should be installed. As a bonus I can play ape files as well now .
IMHO: the how-to should give more tech details not just nice snapshots. After all it is not fashion forum .
Thanks anyway for the how-to, I would miss some good staff like filezilla (did not know it does exist on linux) or streamtuner...

These open source operating systems are rather useless for the average user. Don't give up the illusion to share a free non-zero-cost-software, don't forget people need effective software instead of timewasting nightmares.
Hi, I ran into a problem after following this guide. I am not totally sure what the problem is. But after this guide (removing Totem and use Mplayer) i could not play my favorite online music anymore (beatles-a-rama). After remove mplayer and reinstall totem it plays perfectly again. If anyone get the same problem, I hope this can help.
