1.1 Placements

Currently, we have the following ad placements available:

    • Roadblock: all of the above creatives (one leaderboard and two rectangles) are simultaneously used by one advertiser.

    • Roadblock: all of the above creatives (one leaderboard and two rectangles) are simultaneously used by one advertiser.

  • Forum:

    • Skyscraper (160x600), top left.
    • Rectangle (300x250), bottom right (the rectangle appears only on thread pages, not on the overview pages) .
    • Roadblock: all of the above creatives (one leaderboard, one skyscraper and one rectangle) are simultaneously used by one advertiser.

  • Whole Site:
    • All leaderboards (728x90) above the fold (top center): this includes the leaderboard on the front page, on the article pages and in the forum.

1.2 Targeting

The following filters are available to target your ads to your desired audience:

  • Geography (Geo-Targeting): You can target ad campaigns to countries, regions, metro areas, and cities. For example, you can target country=US AND city=Paris. You can also exclude places. For example, you can target country=France AND city!=Paris to target France but exclude Paris.

  • Category: You can target ad campaigns to the categories and subcategories that are available in our navigation menu on the left side:

  • Browsing: You can target ad campaigns to a user's browsing environment:
    • Bandwidth: cable, DSL, etc.
    • Browser: Chrome, Firefox 3.0, Internet Explorer 8.x, Netscape Navigator x.x, Opera Unknown.Unknown, Safari 2.Unknown, etc.
    • Browser Language: Chinese, English, Italian, German, etc.
    • Operating System: Android, Linux, Macintosh, Microsoft Windows, etc.

  • User Domains: You can set ad campaigns to target ads only to the domains or subdomains of the Internet service providers (ISPs) your users use to access the Internet. For example, if you target stanford.edu, you are targeting students, faculty, and staff of Stanford University only. If you target google.com, you are targeting Google employees only. You can specify top-level domains, such as .edu, and .gov, and subdomains, such as stanford.edu, and usa.gov. Invalid values include services like http://www.psychology.berkeley.edu, and www.usa.gov.

Creatives can be delivered in the following formats:

  • Third Party: A highly customizable, interactive creative. You can use any custom HTML and JavaScript snippets as well as tags from a third-party ad server.

  • Flash: A creative containing animation, sound, video, or interactive features. Requires a Flash (SWF) file.

  • Image: A basic image creative. Requires a GIF, JPG, or PNG file.

  • DoubleClick Tag: A creative hosted by DoubleClick.
