For anyone reading this guide. Upgrading moodle is much more of a pain than installing it.
Are we safe to assume that if we have already setup ISPConfig we can skip the first part of the guide and just go directly to the installation part of the tutorial?
Also, does Moodle operate correctly if it is set in a subdirectory behind a wordpress site?
Thank you so much for sharing. Ran into an issue with snakeoil.pem missing therefore apache2 would not launch. Solved by apt-get install ssl-cert.
Miré varios tutoriales y manuales pero estaba fallando, asi que tuve que intentar varias veces de instalar Moodle en Linux debian 9, y finalmente cuando encontre este tutorial lo logre, instale moodle sin ningun problema, gracias por sus indicaciones, por su tiempo y su exactitud.

Muchas gracias por compartir sus conocminetos instalé correctmanete moodle 3.6, solo hizo falta, modiicar en el archivo /var/www/html/moodle/config.php
$CFG->dbtype = 'msqli';
por:
$CFG->dbtype = 'mariadb';
y siguió funcionando perfectamente.

One thing has to be changed though: moodle can only be installed now with at least php 7.1 (currently at 7.3). So, you should teach how to add the repository of Ondrej (deb.sury.org), since it provides an update of the php for debian 9.
Besides that, I still face some problems (e.g. https does not really work) but even though, well done and thanks a lot.
