First Steps Of Running Linux Via Terminal Instead Of Desktop This tutorial is supposed to show new Linux users how to handle Linux without having to browse through your desktop to edit files. The core commands to do this are the same on every Linux distribution, however there is a large variety of commands that differ from distribution to distribution, as does the install command.

Terminal (or should i say command line?) it 's quite powerful on unix systems.
You can:
Play music files (cmus, mplayer, vlc...)
Have some basic games (bsdgames, vitetris, npush, ninvaders...)
Browse the internet (elinks, links2, lyx...)
Twitter (tyrs, ttytter...)
And the list keeps on and on...
Even basic archive management can get easier with ranger or midnight commander!
For beginners the command rm -rf could be very dangerous. I think it is better to use rmdir oder rm -rfi.
Also the ./ infront of every file is quite useless. The only reason to use it, would be to open for example a shell script.
