Playdeb is a repository for Ubuntu games that makes it easy to install games that are available on getdeb.net. This article shows how you can install games using Playdeb on an Ubuntu 8.04 desktop.

I do not issue any guarantee that this will work for you!

1 Preliminary Note

Playdeb was launched on September 1, 2008, and is still in beta, so it is possible that some games might not work on your system.

2 Preparing The System For Playdeb

Open Firefox and go to http://www.playdeb.net. Click on the apturl package link to install the apturl package from Playdeb. This package is needed later on if you'd like to install games directly from the Playdeb web site - it interpretes URLs of the form apt:alien-arena?refresh=yep.

Select Open with GDebi Package Installer (default) in the Firefox download dialogue:

If you see the message: An older version is available in a software channel, click on Close and ignore the message:

Next click on Install Package to install the apturl package:

Type in your password:

The package is then being downloaded and installed:

Click on Close afterwards and leave the Package Installer:

Go back to the Playdeb web site and click on the playdeb package link to install the playdeb package:

Select Open with GDebi Package Installer (default) in the download dialogue:

Click on Install Package in the Package Installer:

Type in your password:

The playdeb package is then being downloaded and installed:

Click on Close afterwards and leave the Package Installer:

We are now ready to install games from the Playdeb repository!
