So does that mean that someone tried to send an email to a fake address at my domain...I wasn't doing anything with the server or testing any email accounts when this email was sent to the root user address.

But wasn't that you trying to manually send a mail?

no...that's why I was wondering what the email sent to the root email address was for. Did I get hacked...or is it something else?

No, it doesn't mean that you got hacked. I guess someone tried to send a mail from the outside, maybe a spammer who was looking for open relays.
