Web Interface Issue - Post Inital Installation

    Hi Team

I am very new to this product having only just installed it. (In fact this is also my first forum post!) I am also "kinda" new to Linux as well. I had no issues at all during the Debian Linux installation and nor did I have any issues with the ISPConfig installation and it's dependencies in terms of numerous other apps it interacts with. I have setup my "client" and have also created a web site etc all without issue and they are working very well.

However, the issue I am having is in the web interface. When I click on the "Email" icon in between the "Help" and "Monitor" icon, it does not display anything in the centre panel. In fact to be more precise, it simply displays the previous selected icon's data. It does show the "Email" options down the left side of the screen though. i.e. Email Accounts, Mailing Lists, Spamfilter, Fetchmail, etc. But when I select any of them, nothing is displayed in the centre panel other than the stale data from whatever I chose previously from the top toolbar, as follows...

I have clicked on the "System" icon
    [IMG]

Now I click on the "Email" icon and note that the although the left side options change, the centre panel remains on the "System" Icon
    [IMG]

Anything I click on the left hand side (in this case, Email Alias) it just spins for a second and then displays the same screen as the previous screenshot.

The issue seems to be present regardless of the browser I use (FireFox, Chrome, IE, etc). System logs and Error logs do not appear to be showing any errors that would otherwise explain it. I had a search through the forums to no avail. Any assistance would be much appreciated. Here is some data about my configuration as per the request for when posting something like this...

Additionally, I am to connect to the Squirrelmail web interface and am presented with the login, but obviously I cannot actually login as I am unable to create any users due to the issue I am having above. One of the few changes I made during installation was to add alias' for "webmail" and "mail" as opposed to having users use "squirrelmail" at the end of the domain name to access to web interface...

One last potentially relevant thing. (or not) The server is sitting within a DMZ and the inside, outside and DMZ is connected to a Sophos UTM firewall. The server is correct exposed to the outisde and inside networks in terms of connectivity. A look in the firewall logs show no dropped packets and when I enable logging of allowed traffic I see all that I should...

In an attempt to further diagnose the problem I should probably try to configure these email options outside of the ISPConfig interface... However that is done...

So, I have tested postfix/dovecot and can send and receive emails fine from the server console... I have also COMPLETELY re-installed the server OS and ISPConfig3 just in case I fecked something up, but the same result post that install as well. I can't think of anything else.. :( I may have to revert to another panel but don't really want too...

Your problem is that you added an alias /mail in apache instead of /webmail as the installation instructions told you. When you add an alias /mail in apache, then all folders with the name "mail" get redirected to your webmail client, as the ispconfig mail module is in a folder named mail, you redirected all requests to it to your webmail client so that all pages in the mail module must fail.

All you have to do to fix this is to change the squirrelmail.conf file so that it looks like the one from the installation instructions by editing the Alias line and change it from /mail to /webmail, then save the file and restart apache.

    Hi Till

Thank you for your response. Yes, that resolved the problem nicely thank you... :)

In my defence though, I actually created both a /webmail alias (as per the documentation) and a /mail alias (because I quite liked that myself). I've re-read the documentation again, and In section 19 of "The Perfect Server - Debian 8 Jessie (Apache2, BIND, Dovecot, ISPConfig 3) - Page 3" it refers to creating a /webmail alias as you say, but from what I can see, it does not warn of the consequences of creating a /mail alias, so I reasonably thought I could create any named alias and chose that one also.

However, I am very happy now and incredibly grateful to you for the solution... Thanks again.... :) :) :D

Everything that you do in addition to the tutorial may cause a service or function to fail, so we cant list all possible command or options that should not be added or executed.

Understood. Thanks again. All is now working fine and all hosted sites are functioning. I've spent all weekend migrating everything over and am liking the product overall. I am now digesting more info from the manual and these forums. Thanks again... :)
