Does this tutorial apply for "The Perfect Setup - SUSE 9.3"? OR
Is it designed for the " Debian Sarge (Debian 3.1)."?

( This tutorial is based on Debian Sarge (Debian 3.1). You should already have set up a basic Debian system, as described here: http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_setup_debian_sarge and )

This tutorial is written for DEBIAN. But it might work on SuSe 9.3 with some modifications.

I guess inet_interfaces is not set to all in /etc/postfix/main.cf. Put
    Code:
    inet_interfaces = all
    into /etc/postfix/main.cf and restart Postfix.

    Restarted....but still getting

    from the machine itself

    when i telnet localhost pop3
or telnet localhost 25 I still get
    Trying 127.0.0.1...
telnet: connect to address 127.0.0.1: Connection refused
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

Also from the machine when using the "public" ip i get
    Trying <PUBLIC UP>...
    Connected to reverse.ip.add (PUBLICIP).
    Escape character is '^]'.

From another machine going to this i get just blank screens no responses

Please post again the output of:

    netstat -tap

after you applied the modification in your main.cf that falko suggested and you restarted postfix.

SMTP is listening on 0.0.0.0 on port 25 (instead of on all addresses) and on 127.0.0.1 on port 10026.
Please post /etc/postfix/main.cf and /etc/postfix/master.cf here.

And there's no POP3 daemon running at all, so you must start your POP3 daemon (Courier?).
