    Hi,

i hoped that i can upgrade my (fresh installed) VMware based ISPConfig to latest version without troubles, but i got this:

Noch eine Anmerkung mehr. Kann es sein das das abgebrochene Setup meine aktuelle Installation geschrottet hat?

Denn erstens kann ich nun die WebGUI nicht mehr aufrufen und zweitens reagiert ./setup nun anders und tut so als ob ich kein ISPConfig installiert haette.

Wie ist das im Fehlerfall bei ISPConfig?

    ---

Sorry wrong language, again in english. Can it be that ISPConfig installer destroyed my previous installation?

Because one thing is that i cant access the WebGUI anymore, second issue is that the installer now thinks that i dont have a ISPConfig installation running because of much more questions than before.

Whats happening when the installer breaks, makes me quite nervous to see things like these. Especially when i think of the next update...

Update: seems i am fighting with this one: http://www.howtoforge.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14258
    Damn damn....

Ok, perhaps there are other people out there trying ISPConfig VMWare edition and who want to upgrade later on.

The error that appears will be solved by installing "binutils" via apt-get. Then ClamAV can be compiled and everything runs as expected.

But one thing is very scary. ISPConfig seems to delete the current installation or at least renders it unusable and does a "full" install on another call of "setup". In my case all my data was lost that i have setuped before. Luckily i only have one test reseller/customer/site running but this would be a major pain if i would have done more.

For future users i would really provide a newer VMWare version of ISPConfig. I mean many people are trying things out with VMWare images and in my case, i am also running these in production.

No. ISPConfig does a backup. But if you run the update again without restoring it or recreating the directory /root/ispconfig, it will cause data loss of course.

You can download current vmware images for all supported linux distributions here on howtoforge if you are a member. The vmware image on the vmware site is no official image from the ispconfig project and we provide no updates for it.

The vmware images are prepared for ISPConfig but ISPConfig is not preinstalled. Just download the latest ISPConfig version, unpack it and run setup.

thanks for quick reply. Yeah fair enough, shouldnt be much trouble to install it on top of the perfectSetup Image. IMO the link to the image on the VMWare VMs-Overview site should be removed from the ispconfig website...

Its quite a unclean installation with lots of anoyances and troubles.... the one i described above was only one thing. I gave up with this images because of problems like these and go with the perfectSetup now.
