Secure mysql connections in multi-host configurations

    To enable this ssl, set:

    $conf['db_client_flags'] = 0;


    $conf['db_client_flags'] = MYSQL_CLIENT_SSL;

    in the server file.

    Tried earlier:

    $conf['dbmaster_client_flags'] = MYSQL_CLIENT_SSL;

    which looked more obvious, but that did not do the trick.

    $conf['db_client_flags'] = MYSQL_CLIENT_SSL;

    indeed triggers a secure connection to the master database and seems to work with the local database too even when it does not support SSL.
