    Hello all and Falko!

Im looking for help because I am fairly new to the linux server administration and am trying to run a server for webhosting and email services. The problems I am having are all related to the email setup and the information is as follows:

I followed your tutorial on (http://www.howtoforge.org/perfect-server-debian-lenny-ispconfig3-p1) and I am looking for information about email setup.

    From

    - ISP Config
    - Spam Assassin/Courier/POSTFIX/SquirrelMail
    - How to create/update/delete email accounts for domains served on your server setup.

Let's say I have a site mydomain.com. I want to add [email protected] as an email. How would I do that?

Do you have a tutorial somewhere that covers this, and email adminstration?

Thanks Falko, I am a big fan of your tutorials!!

    =)

    Attempting to configure email..

OK! So I am attempting to do this and learn as I go, so any helping hands would be greatly appreciated!

I have done this so far in the ISP Config 3 Panel:

Side panel menu items are listed in quotations.

    "Domain"
Added the domain that I serve (sufuku.net) as an email domain. This shows up in my ISPConfig control panel in the correct server and domain name.

    "Email Mailbox"
Added a test email address as '[email protected]' This shows the correct name and autoresponder is set to 'no'

Now, when I try to email the address from my gmail account, I get the following message from gmail (google)

    ------------------------------------------------------------------
"Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

    [email protected]
    Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 #5.1.0 Address rejected [email protected] (state 14).

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Also worth mentioning... when I try to access the mail via the URL (www.sufuku.net/mail) the server sends back the default ISPConfig 404 error saying 'ERROR 404 - Not Found!'

    Ideas?
    Suggestions?

    Additional updates....

I have searched through your forums and found a post which I took information from and I added the following lines in /etc/apache2/conf.d/apache2-doc

    Alias /webmail /usr/share/squirrelmail/

    <Directory "/usr/share/squirrelmail/">
    Options Indexes FollowSymlinks
    AllowOverride None
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    AddDefaultCharset off
    </Directory>

Now I can access my webmail through www.sufuku.net/webmail

I can also SEND email - I verified this works great!
    I CANNOT RECEIVE mail.

    Any help?

Thats easy done in 2 steps.

    1) Click on email > domain > add new domain, enter the domain name and click on save.
    2) Click on email > email mailbox > add new mailbox, enter the email part before the @ and the password and click on save.

Regarding your email log, there is no line about receiving a email, so I guess that the MX record of your domain is not pointing to the hostname of the server. If you chnaged the mx record recently, be aware that you have to wait up to 48 hours until external servers like google can find it.

I noticed that I can send mail INTERNALLY, from one of my hosted domains to the other, but NOT externally.

So if I send from Gmail to sufuku.net, I get the error. but if I send from [email protected] to [email protected], it works. Same goes for another domain I have hosted on my server, I can send mail as long as it is on the domain is hosted on my server.

I guess this goes back to your MX record... but where is that?
Is this something I have to tell my domain provider, such as godaddy?
Or does my server automatically know this information?

Is there a way to cut out godaddy from the loop so I am in total control?

    =) Thanks Till!

I want to add this update:

Godaddy was the source of the routing issue, and after talking with them on the phone they were more than happy to assist me in correcting the DNS records in their control panel. The issue was a generic MX record they put in place, which I replaced with my server information, and now all seems to work well!

Thank you Till for helping my thought process and setting me straight ! =)
