    Hello everyone I am trying to make a connection between two postfix servers. Let's call my main mail server mail.example.com and the other server admin.example.com which I wanna use it to only send emails via mail.example.com (I am running a cron job on admin server and it needs to send emails). From the log files I've gathered it seems at the moment that admin server can connect to mail server but no emails are sended.

    admin.example.com postfix main.cf:
    Code:
    # See /usr/share/postfix/main.cf.dist for a commented, more complete version

    # Debian specific: Specifying a file name will cause the first
    # line of that file to be used as the name. The Debian default
    # is /etc/mailname.
    #myorigin = /etc/mailname

    smtpd_banner = $myhostname ESMTP $mail_name (Debian/GNU)
    biff = no

    # appending .domain is the MUA's job.
    append_dot_mydomain = no

    # Uncomment the next line to generate "delayed mail" warnings
    #delay_warning_time = 4h

    readme_directory = no

    # TLS parameters
    smtpd_tls_cert_file=/etc/postfix/smtpd.pem
    smtpd_tls_key_file=/etc/postfix/smtpd.key
    smtpd_use_tls=yes
    #smtpd_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${data_directory}/smtpd_scache
    #smtp_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${data_directory}/smtp_scache

    # See /usr/share/doc/postfix/TLS_README.gz in the postfix-doc package for
    # information on enabling SSL in the smtp client.

    smtpd_relay_restrictions = permit_mynetworks permit_sasl_authenticated defer_unauth_destination
    myhostname = admin.example.com
    alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases
    alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases

    mydestination = admin.domain.eu, localhost, localhost.localdomain, localhost
    relayhost = [mail.example.com]:587

    mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8 [::ffff:127.0.0.0]/104 [::1]/128 192.168.0.0/24

    smtp_sasl_auth_enable = yes
    smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/sasl_passwd

    I've added my username and password for my mail inbox which is located /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd (mail.example.com username:pass)

    How do I test admin.example.com?
    I am using a simple mail command in terminal
    Code:
    echo "Test body" | mail -s "Test subject" "username@domain.com"
    When I enter this command the log on admin.example is:
    Code:
    May 19 14:58:31 admin postfix/local[20356]: 20B94DC0B80: to=<dollar@admin.example.com>, orig_to=<root@admin.example.com>, relay=local, delay=0.06, delays=0.02/0.01/0/0.03, dsn=2.0.0, status=s
    May 19 14:58:31 admin postfix/qmgr[19650]: 20B94DC0B80: removed
    On mail.example.com I am getting:
    Code:
    May 19 14:58:31 mail postfix/submission/smtpd[15402]: connect from XX-XX-XX-XXX.myhostname.com[MY-IP-ADDRESS]
    May 19 14:58:31 mail postfix/submission/smtpd[15402]: disconnect from XX-XX-XX-XXX.myhostname.com[MY-IP-ADDRESS]

    May 19 14:59:09 mail dovecot: imap(user@domain.com): Disconnected: Logged out in=50 out=475
    No warning or errors on both servers. Both are on the same network and have firewalls (UFW) the mail ports are open only on mail.example.com .
    Why am I doing this?! As I said I needed it for a cron job to send emails when CPU or HDDs reaches X temperature using lm-sensors and hddtemp.
    If you guys need more information feel free to ask. Thanks in advance for the help!

    You are making this much more difficult than it needs to be.

    On main.server put under mynetworks = admin.server.ip/32 (+what ever was there)
    On admin.server put under relayhost = main.server.ip
    rm /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd

    Restart postfix on both servers...

    Let the good times begin.

    When you need to do this in the future, instead when you are installing mailutils it will ask you if you want to setup a relay host and that is what you should do and point it to main.server

    I did it and now I am getting this after trying to send a mail:
    Code:
    admin postfix/qmgr[2327]: 10260DC0B7C: from=<root@admin.domain.eu>, size=303, nrcpt=1 (queue active)
    admin postfix/smtp[3949]: 10260DC0B7C: to=<admin@domain.eu>, relay=192.168.100.6[192.168.100.6]:587, delay=0.09, delays=0.07/0.01/0/0, dsn=5.7.0, status=bounced (host 192.168.100.6[192.168.100.6] said: 530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first (in reply to MAIL FROM command))
    admin postfix/cleanup[3919]: 27F94DC0B7D: message-id=<20170522210207.27F94DC0B7D@admin.domain.eu>
    After some search I saw that I needed to add this in the main.cf on admin server:
    Code:
    smtpd_tls_auth_only = yes
    smtp_tls_security_level = may
    Now this where I am stucked after adding them, this is on admin server:
    Code:
    May 23 00:08:14 admin postfix/qmgr[14859]: 6B2DEDC0B36: from=<root@admin.domain.eu>, size=303, nrcpt=1 (queue active)
    May 23 00:08:14 admin postfix/smtp[14889]: 6B2DEDC0B36: to=<admin@domain.eu>, relay=192.168.100.6[192.168.100.6]:587, delay=0.41, delays=0.07/0.09/0.19/0.07, dsn=5.7.1, status=bounced (host 192.168.100.6[192.168.100.6] said: 554 5.7.1 <admin.domain.eu[192.168.100.4]>: Client host rejected: Access denied (in reply to RCPT TO command))
    admin postfix/cleanup[14887]: C8B76DC0B3C: message-id=<20170522210814.C8B76DC0B3C@admin.domain.eu>
    this is the main mail server:
    Code:
    mail postfix/submission/smtpd[27253]: connect from admin.domain.eu[192.168.100.4]
    mail postfix/submission/smtpd[27253]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from admin.domain.eu[192.168.100.4]: 554 5.7.1 <admin.domain.eu[192.168.100.4]>: Client host rejected: Access denied; from=<root@admin.domain.eu> to=<admin@domain.eu> proto=ESMTP helo=<admin.domain.eu>
    I don't understand both servers are on the same network.
    Sorry for making this more complicated that needed. I will update if I find a solution.

    You are close. Okay so on your main mail server did you add the IP address of the admin server for mynetworks = ???
    So for instance
    mynetworks = 127.0.0.1/8 192.168.100.0/24
    I used your 192.168.100.0 complete class C subnet as an example. That way if you add more servers on that network they will send email correctly already.

    Then restart postfix on the main server. Then try again.

    Ok sooo, I think I've fixed the problem so I will post information here in case someone gets confused as me on what to do as a first timer.

    First of all I needed to edit the main.cf on admin (I needed to add ',' on this line):
    Code:
    smtpd_relay_restrictions = permit_mynetworks , permit_sasl_authenticated , defer_unauth_destination
    And also changing the relay host to a domain (again on admin server):
    Code:
    relayhost = [mail.domain.eu]:587
    Needed to edit a little (again on admin server) /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd .
    From:
    Code:
    [mail.domain.eu]:587 user:password
    To:
    Code:
    [mail.domain.eu]:587 user@domain.eu:password
    And lastly I added my external IP in main.cf on both servers (not sure if that was needed really):
    Code:
    mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8 192.168.100.0/24 XXX.XX.XXXX.XXX/32
    For now everything works OK, I can send email from admin server VIA terminal and it gets relayed on mail server.
    Thanks for all the help. I will update this thread if I encounter any errors.
