1. Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to set up courier imap on Fedora Core 5.

I *think* I have nearly got everything sorted out, but have one final problem.

When I create a new email account (using ISPConfig), the user is created successfully (ie Maildir folder is created with courierimapkeywords, cur, new and tmp folders + courierimapuiddb file), but there are no default "send" or "trash" folders, or a courierimapsubscribed file.

I can log into these accounts with Squirelmail (can only see the inbox), but I don't think I can successfully send emails.

I can manually create the folders, and the courierimapkeywords file, at which point all works fine (ie can send emails)

Can someone give me some pointers where to look?

    Thanks!
    James.

What is the content of your squirrelmail's config.php?

My copy of Squirrelmail was installed using the ISPConfig Squrrelmail package, and modified with conf.pl to use the default Courier settings.

  5. Can someone give me some ideas on which program is responsible for creating the default folders? I get the impression that when a new email account is created that the send and trash folders are not created at this time - it is left to the first imap client that logs in to do this (eg Squirrelmail or Outlook etc) - is this correct? Are these folders created regardless of whether it is the first time that the account has been logged into?

My maillog has the following in it when I try to log in:
    Dec 26 20:04:20 uksys01 imapd: Connection, ip=[::ffff:127.0.0.1]

Note: I've tried to implement the mod that allows me to log in using user@domain
Is it somehow possible that although courier imap is authenticating my email login successfuly that in reality it does not have access to the Maildir folder, and that as a result it cannot access the "Inbox"? (though I would have expected to see an error in the log if this were the case).

    Thanks for your help,
    James.

    OK, set
    $auto_create_special = false; to
    $auto_create_special = true;
    I also reccomend setting
    $show_contain_subfolders_option = false; to
    $show_contain_subfolders_option = true;

    Now reload apache.

    This should solve your problem.

I think you mean trash, sent and drafts?
They are created because some mailclient is ordering to do so (so in your case probably squirrelmail). The folders and their structures are created and maintained by courier, but luckily courier does not autocreate anything.
Subsequently your mail client can order courier to create, modifie and delete all other folders you wish to handle.
By the way, the inbox and initial structures are created when the first message arrives.

  8. Hi Tycho,

Thanks for your quick reply - Squirellmail is now working correctly!

    However....

I now have a new problem.

I don't seem to be able to receive emails correctly.

When Postfix receives an email, it says (maillog):
    Dec 27 09:12:25 uksys01 postfix/smtpd[20719]: connect from omta04ps.mx.bigpond.com[144.140.83.156]
    Dec 27 09:12:25 uksys01 postfix/smtpd[20719]: 61C571E90726: client=omta04ps.mx.bigpond.com[144.140.83.156]

    Dec 27 09:12:25 uksys01 postfix/qmgr[7939]: 61C571E90726: from=<[email protected]>, size=2556, nrcpt=1 (queue active)
    Dec 27 09:12:25 uksys01 postfix/smtpd[20719]: disconnect from omta04ps.mx.bigpond.com[144.140.83.156]
    Dec 27 09:12:26 uksys01 postfix/smtp[20724]: 61C571E90726: to=<[email protected]>, orig_to=<[email protected]>, relay=192.168.201.40[192.168.201.40], delay=1, status=sent (250 Ok: queued as 0C16FA5624)
    Dec 27 09:12:26 uksys01 postfix/qmgr[7939]: 61C571E90726: removed
From this I interpret that an email was successfully received from the Internet, and that Postfix *thinks* that it has been deposited into the appropriate mailbox correctly.

However, the email never reaches the mailbox.

I'm trying to use Maildir, but I think I might have accidently started to use something else (I think the Courier IMAP module that I installed possibly also included a Maildrop module too)

Can you give me some pointers on what needs to be fixed here to get things back to normal?

    Thanks!

Your server is forwarding the email to the relayserver instead of handling it locally.

Is the domain of the email address (i guess its reidware.net ?) listed in the file /etc/postfix/local-host-names ? Have you enabled the maildir checkbox in ISPConfig under management > server > settings?

Try executing the following code on the host you use to login with squirrelmail or any other maiclient:

    postconf -e 'home_mailbox = Maildir/'

    Afterwards reload postfix.

Let me know the result please.

(and of course you should check wether delivering your mail to the relayhost is actually what you want it to do, just like till sugested. If not, also execute:
    postconf -e 'relayhost ='
    on this host)

Come to think of it, why did you set the relayhost parameter in the first place?

  12. Hi,

reidware.net is in my local-host-names file (the intention of the relayhost line in main.cf is to forward all outgoing mail to an old server until the old server is decommissioned)

ISPConfig is set up for Maildir

I am suspicious of the maildrop line in master.cf - I don't have a vmail user account - I suspect this means that when Postfix attempts to pass the email over for delivery that it ends up going nowhere. I originally installed dovecot as part of the Fedora Core 5 perfect install, but have tried to move to Courier IMAP so that I can use the instructions for allowing users to log in as user@domain.

My understanding (maybe wrong!) is that I only need to set maildrop up this way if I am using virtual users, (which I am not), but I can't figure out how it should be configured.

Alternatively, I could create a vmail account, but I am not sure what rights it needs.

    Thanks for your help!

    James.

    Code:
    netstat -tap
    ?

    Hello!

Does this solution only affect newly created accounts?
I have about 150 domains on my server with about 600 accounts and I'd really like to know what would happen to the existing accounts if I used the given solution..... ;)
What would happen if someone had created these folders manually already?

    Thank you,
    regards, Tom

I think it affects all accounts, but I'm not sure.
