MySQL Startup Failure

    Using The Perfect Server - CentOS 5.3 x86_64 [ISPConfig 3]

    [root@tsvr ~]# /etc/init.d/mysqld start
    Timeout error occurred trying to start MySQL Daemon.
    Starting MySQL: [FAILED]

    [root@tsvr ~]#tail /var/log/mysqld.log

    Permissions:
    drwxr-xr-x 2 mysql mysql 4096 Sep 24 10:38 mysqld

    Running on: Dell PE2950 w/64bit Processor
    I am also installing on an i386 machine and are not having these problems.

    What are the permissions of .pid file /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid ??

    MySQL Startup error

    [root@tsvr ~]# ls -la /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid
    ls: /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid: No such file or directory

    Permissions for the directory are:

    [root@tsvr ~]# ls -la /var/run/mysqld
    total 8
    drwxr-xr-x 2 mysql mysql 4096 Sep 24 14:38 .
    drwx-----T 8 root root 4096 Sep 24 13:44 ..

    Please do this:

    chmod 755 /var/run
