    Hello. I am using ubuntu 8.04

    i have follow the instructions of this page

    and in the step in which i must press

    mysql> SET PASSWORD FOR 'root'@'localhost' = PASSWORD('yourpassword');
    it came up the following error

    ERROR 1045: Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using
    password: NO)
    i read this page and i do everything but when i am pressing the comand

    /usr/bin/mysqld --skip-grant-tables --user=root
    the terminal stucks (the above command doesn't work).

    What should i do to fix it?

    Also i want my mysql to be local.So should i change the?

    Please try
    mysqladmin -u root password yourpassword

    No, don't change it.

    Try (replace with the server's IP address or hostname).
