    Hi
I installed ispconfig3 on centos 7 following your tutorial.
when i use imap in my email client software, and i try to search for an email, it does not work properly. if i type any keywork, i will get maybe 2 results out of 200 or wrong results.
is there something i need to install or do?
if yes, any tutorials on this?
    thank you
    Ben

Search works fine for me without doing anything extra to make it work; have you tried multiple inappropriate clients to see if they all do that? Do you have a Full Text Search (FTS) index configured in dovecot? (I do not)

yes i tried a few clients, even tried in roundcube, same issue.
anyway to troubleshoot or fix it?
anything i should install? i read someone posted to install FTS Lucene, what is that and is there a tutorial on how to do that?
    thank you

I'm sure there is, though I've never had the problem and am somewhat just guessing from here. If all else fails, you might try the dovecot mailing list.

Does this happen for all email accounts or have you been testing just one?

I don't know if a reindex would help, but it shouldn't hurt - try "doveadm force-resync -u [email protected] '*'" then try search again. If that works, "doveadm force-resync -A '*'" will resync all mailboxes.

There are various alternate systems to index mail contents to speed up search, and using lucene is one of them. Setting one up may get your search working, and might be worth doing in its own right (for speed improvements), but I've not worked with any myself. Others on the list might be able to help (I believe @Rabenkind posted something about using lucene fairly recently, though I don't remember if it was a "recipe" for setting it up or just a mention of using it). I've not seen any tutorials related to ispconfig offhand, but I'm sure you'll find generic info for dovecot that will apply quite handily; the only ispconfig specific bits would involve how to change the dovecot.conf file in a way that withstands ispconfig updates (ie. use a conf-custom file).
