    Can I use centos5.5 i386 instead of the 64bit version? That is all I need...thanks.

    Yes, you can use the 32 and 64 bit versions. If you use the perfect setup guide for centos 5.5 on a 32bit, then you should leave out this commands in the dovecot install part:

    rm -fr /usr/lib/dovecot/
    ln -s /usr/lib64/dovecot/ /usr/lib/dovecot

    otherwise dovecot will not work.
