i have followed the instructions online and been able to get the server send and receive emails. but when i check the activity section of ispconfig it says theres an error and the ftp server is offline. im running pure- ftp however im sure when the server loads up that the ftp server loads so does anyone have any idea as to how to get around this.

Just make a second reading in the instalation tutorial of your SO.
Your are missing something in the Ftp part.

    1) Please post the error messages.
    2) Is this a physical or virtual server?
    3) Which Tutorial did you use to install the server?

    FTP Service

i was following the guide at this address:

I followed everything in the letter through out. all the parts of the FTP section went ok apart from 1. Which i think maybe where the problem is.

When i type in the following: /etc/init.d/openbsd-inetd restart it says the following:

restarting internet superserver: inetdNot starting internet superserver:No services enabled.

i tried to do a force restart but has made no difference. This is on a physical server and not a virtual one.

Thats the expected message as FTP does not run trogh inetd. If it would say that there are services, then there would be a config error.

Please restart pure-ftpd-mysql daemon with its script in /etc/init.d
