    I am having the same problem. ISPconfig 3.0.3.1 Debian lenny.

    I have installed cURL and restarted the webserver but still my Joomla extension (Akeeba Pro) says there is no cURL.
    Code:
    "Your server indicates that Live Update is not supported. Please contact your host and ask them to enable the cURL PHP extension or activate the URL fopen() wrappers. If these are already enabled, please ask them to configure their firewall so that it allows access to the following URL:";
    Do I need to manually ad it in the custom php.ini settings also?

    TIA

    I've installed curl several times using this method and not had any problems on debian lenny. You do need to make sure you restart the webserver though.

    Could it be Joomla is displaying an error message that was written when the akeeba was installed? Despite the component's error, does it work regardless? Try removing and reinstalling akeeba. Jomres lite is a free component that uses curl you could always try temporarily installing to test it.

    or, try a script like this:
    Code:
    // ### Checks for presence of the cURL extension.
    function _iscurlinstalled() {
    	if  (in_array  ('curl', get_loaded_extensions())) {
    		return true;
    	}
    	else{
    		return false;
    	}
    }
