    Hi,

recentyly I've installed Ubuntu 8.04. One of my problems with it is that I can't burn any cd/dvds in any application. For example in K3B I add files to the compilation and click "Burn".Then I select "Verify written data","Multisession: no multisession" and set the speed to 4x and again click "Burn".
After 3 seconds I get an error:"Could not determine size of resulting image file" and everything stops. The debugging output contains:
/usr/bin/genisoimage exists and /usr/bin/mkisofs is a symbolic link to /usr/bin/genisoimage. In Ubuntu 7.10 everything was working good without such problems. The same dvd burns great under Windows.
This Ubuntu 8.04 installation is fresh. I've just installed K3B and some media codecs. I even tried reinstalling.
    What can be wrong ?
    Please help.

Does this happen in Brasero as well?

Yes it does but Brasero tries to burn the data on dvd.
However it's error log is 11MB big after burning.
It says that every file was not burned without errors.

    you shuld install arson

try apt-get install arson, or just look for it on the web
make sure you start the program with sudo.

you can find more help for your desktop at:

What difference would Arsen make ? It's a frontend for CD burning, and ripping tools.

What about Gnomebaker? Does it show errors as well?

I don't have it now so I can't tell if it works or not.
Unfortunately I can't install it now (no Internet connection).
I've installed NeroLinux (trial) and it works but I'd like to use free software for burning cds/dvds.

    NeroLinux?

    Dude:

Ubuntu 8.04 seems to work for most right out off the "live disk".
Better yet, Ubuntu 7.10, in my experience, is relatively bullet-proof and
as Mr. Falco suggests, Brasero, the default burner works quite well.
I think that's why he suggested Brasero. Good Luck!

    :)

Yes, I understand the idea but K3B should also work "out of the box".
When I'll be able to install Brasero I'll do it and post what I came out with.

I still have that problem because I'm grounded (no Internet connection at home) but I'll do more tests and reinstalls.
My burner works very well on Windows and I'm very happy of it.Maybe You got a damaged burner ?

I have just fully updated my Ubuntu 8.04 and once again tried to burn a DVD.
This time it worked. I'm not really sure what fixed the problem but I bet it was the updates.

    Disk Checksum in Brasero

How do you do a disk integrity check in Basero? It solved the k3b bug so I can now burn...

First of all you can uninstall K3B and then reinstall K3B software and then you can check with burn process. And then if problem continue then you have to download latest version of that burning software.
