This functionality is now available as ISPConfig plugin. You can add / modify / delete users, websites, dns-records, clients and resellers via a SOAP interface from external applications and scripts.

To install ISPConfig, the MySQL Devel packages are necessary. After you installed the mysql-devel package from your linux distro, you can run the ISPConfig setup again.

You can re-generate the ISPConfig SSL certificate like this:

openssl genrsa -des3 -passout pass:yourpassword -out /root/ispconfig/httpd/conf/ssl.key/server.key2 1024

openssl req -new -passin pass:yourpassword -passout pass:yourpassword -key /root/ispconfig/httpd/conf/ssl.key/server.key2 -out /root/ispconfig/httpd/conf/ssl.csr/server.csr -days 365

openssl req -x509 -passin pass:yourpassword -passout pass:yourpassword -key /root/ispconfig/httpd/conf/ssl.key/server.key2 -in /root/ispconfig/httpd/conf/ssl.csr/server.csr -out /root/ispconfig/httpd/conf/ssl.crt/server.crt -days 365

I have deleted a site/domain and now want to create a new site/domain with the same name but ISPConfig does not allow it.

Most probably the deleted site/domain is still in the recycle bin. You have to delete them first in the recycle bin before you are able to create a new object with that name.

I created a new user but he cannot log in to see the website statistics.

The statistics are updated once a day. Once this has happened the new user can log in.

How do I authenticate myself to see the website statistics?

All users belonging to that site can log in with their username and password.

If there are no users you can log in like this:

Username: admin
Password: stats

Where can I find statistics for the websites managed by the ISPConfig system?

If the package webalizer is installed on your system you can find the statistics of the respective site in the folder stats (e.g. www.xyz.tld/stats/). The statistics are updated once a day. If you create a new site you will not see statistics at once.

I created a web xyz.tld and can reach it via www.xyz.tld, but not via xyz.tld.

Under Co-Domains please enter xyz.tld (without host!). The website will then also reachable via xyz.tld.

I need an SSL certificate for my website. What do I have to do?

Activate the option SSL on the tab Basic of the web and go to the tab SSL. Provide your information there (State/county and Organizational unit are optional").

Please leave empty the fields SSL Request and SSL Certificate. Choose Create Certificate under Action and then click on Save.

Afterwards, if you go to the tab SSL again, you will find the Certificate Signing Request (CSR) under SSL Request. Copy the CSR. With this CSR you can apply for an SSL certificate at companies like Verisign (www.verisign.com), Baltimore (www.baltimore.com), Entrust (www.entrust.com), Geotrust (www.geotrust.com), IPSCA (www.ipsca.com) or InstantSSL (www.instantssl.com).

I changed some directives in the virtual hosts by hand, but they suddenly disappeared.

Never edit the vhost file manually. On the next update of the system your changes will be overwritten! Instead put your additional vhost configuration in the Apache Directives field in the ISPConfig Interface.

If you want to add something manually to other files, e.g Postfix' local-host-names, you can put your configuration at the end of the file in a section that is not overwritten by ISPConfig.

How can I specify which prefix new users get upon creation (e.g. web[no]_)?

Go to Management -> System Config -> Settings. On the tab ISP-Manager you will see the field User Prefix where you can specify a prefix for users. You can use one of the following placeholders:

[DOMAIN]

[HOST]

[WEBID]

If you don't want a prefix, just leave it blank.

I created a user in ISPConfig but I cannot see him on the system.

Please check that you did not mix up customers and users. A customer can login to the ISPConfig and manage his sites (and create system users on the tab User & Email) but he cannot login to the system (e.g. by using FTP, email) because he is not a system user. A customer is an object that exists only in the ISPConfig, but not on the system.

A system user cannot login to the ISPConfig, but he can use services such as email, etc.

I have deleted a user. Now ISPConfig does not let me create a new user with the same user name.

Most probably you have forgotten to delete the user from the recycle bin. Only after you have deleted the user from the recycle bin are you able to create a new user with that user name.
