What's in the .forward file? Can you post a little bit more from the mail log?

Hey Falko,
The problem appears to be solved as of now. I changed the mail id in the .forward file to something completely distinct from the mail domain. It appears the mailing host was getting confused abt the mailin id. Would reach bak when the problem occurs again.
