Obviously, i had to buy licenses when any linux distribution installs on any of my servers, i had to buy windows licences to install vmware to run linux.
Now, im tired to fight and my own email server is almost ready to test.

You dont have to buy linux licences and you dont have to use vmware when you install linux directly on your server.

It was my intentions 6 months ago, but linux (all dist.) seems to have problems with a lot of hardware and i couldnt install it on any server, especialy cause linux doesnt recognize my sata2 hds or my compaq array scsi controller. Windows detect any and every hard over earth, so, i install vmware under windows. Plus, i can get via terminal server to the windows and gain access to the linux console, on a 100% linu enviroment you cant do that

Ive already read that thread, but the centos 4.4 incompatibility is just one of my reasons to not use linux anymore. After install it and ispconfig without errors (except the version) nothing runs fine, postfix doesnt route, folders were not created..
Its not an easy choice, think about that, i prefer to develop an email server under windows than to keep fighting linux. Its not an easy choice at all.

Fobicodam,
It is a pity that you have a bad experience with Linux because it does not support your hardware or something like that.
So, i do understand that you want to use an OS that give you the hardware support you need. In your case it is Windows.
Maybe in the near future (if you've time and inspiration for it) you can give another Linux distro a try.
Like myself, I've tried different distros too, and sometimes i had the same problems like you've now. But....
One day you will find the Linux distro which will support your hardware and is supported by ISPConfig. On that moment Linux brings you more perspective and you will love it!
I found my distro too, it's is Debian, definitely!

I didnt get it but i believe its a joke if you have a "dont running" or "insecure" windows based server its because you must go to create a hippie community and leave technology :-D
If you do a fine configuration for windows NT4/2000/2003 you can be 100% certain that server will run forever ) no hangs, no "misterious config changes", no missing mails, no hackers retrieving your pass files, as im used to see on linux systems
But its me, i dont want to change your minds !! keep developing and testing linux, call me when you finnish it !! if you need some help ill be there to help but ill not install it as a main OS for any server until i get an error free version
