Default ftp to virtualhost failed ?

after creating ftp-user, i tried to ftp to my virtual website but its failing via filezilla and winscp. Please give directions? here are the outputs when using filezilla:

Status: Connecting to virtualhost.net...
Response: fzSftp started
Command: open "virtualhost_netftpuser@virtualhost.net" 22
Error: Network error: Connection timed out
Error: Could not connect to server

Thats not aftp connect attempt. Port 22 is SSH and not FTP. Maybe you mix up sftp with ftp. SFTP is a ssh protocol and not a FTP protocol.
