Default Symlink ownership in /var/www

Hi
On Debian in the /var/www folder we have symbolic links pointing to the web root folder, i can see in mine that some are owned by root and some are owned by www-data. Witch is the right ownership and does it matter at all ??

If i delete a symlink and make changes to the site in ispconfig it recreates the symlink as root.

Default

The ownership of the symlinks does not matter, www-data and root are both ok as owners.
