Default SMTP user plus remote mail delivery

Hi,

ISPConfig 3.03 Centos Postfix Perfect Server

I would like our user to be able to send email through the server hmexample.com (example domain). I created an email domain hmexample.com and then a user smtpsender@hmexample.com. This works with sasl_method=PLAIN and the user is able to send email.

I would also like all mail generated by the website www.hmexample.com which is on the same server as the mail server to be delivered to mail.hmexample.com which is on a completely different server / IP.

Tried lots of email routing / transport scenarios with no success. I can't seem to get both to work in combination. If I remove the email domain then the SASL SMTP stops working, but if I leave it in place then Apache tries to deliver mail locally and not to the remote mail server IP.

Can anyone help to find the magic combination to get this to work?

Thanks,

Ed

Did you try ISPConfig Email routing feature? This should do what you need.

I did try the email routing feature (I even read the manual :-), but I couldn't get this to work as expected. We solved the situation by providing an SMTP authenticated user on a different domain name.

Much appreciate the reply. Many thanks for taking the trouble.

Do you remember what you filled into the form?

Hi Falko,

Thanks for the follow up. Yes, I do remember.

I went to Email Routing -> Add New Transport

I added exampledomain.com in the domain field (no asterisks or @ symbols).

I used SMTP as type.

I left No MX lookup as unticked.

I added mail.anotherdomain.com in the destination field.

I left sort by as 5 as I have no other rules.

I also added a new Relay Recipient (as per the manual).

In this box I added @exampledomain.com.

As I said, I _thought_ this was as per the manual, but it could either be incorrect or I may have a faulty postfix conf somewhere.

Thanks again for your help with this.

Ed

That looks correct. Do you have some Postfix mail log excerpts from the time that transport was in place?
