Default pure-ftpd upload problem

I have an older server that is still on Debian 5.0 that will be upgraded shortly, but at the moment pureftpd is having an issue.

When the client uploads a file it is being transferred but has zero bytes.

syslog is saying :

'[ERROR] Error during write to file: Permission denied'

however the permissions are correct.

can anybody assist with this please ?

Is this a physical server or a virtual machine?

Hi Falko,

It's a virtual machine. Vmware-server-2.0.

Debian Lenny,

pure-ftpd-mysql 1.0.21-11.4
ispconfig 3.0.1.3

the bug appears randomly, not on all sites, this is the second server, after about 6 months, permission denied error though it overwrites the file with zero bytes.

Regards,

Richard

If you were using OpenVZ, I'd have had a possible solution...

Did you check your logs?
