Default back up server?

i have an extra computer just sitting and i need a project so i was wanting to create a backup/ mirror server. so a complete copy of my main server.

i was thinking that if there was a problem with the main server that the backup/mirror server could take over and keep the sites up and running.

i have looked and did not see anything it there a howto for ubuntu 10.04 for this?

thanks

kwick

You can use a combination of rsync and MySQL replication to keep data in sync. If you want to have IP failover in addition to that, take a look here: http://www.howtoforge.com/setting-up...n-debian-lenny

We have rsync and MySQL replication tutorials here on HowtoForge. You can rsync files to a local drive.

Yes, but this leaves you with a single point of failure (if the load balancer fails you've gained nothing).

That should work.
