Lightbulb Unable to login through GUI, Linux dist : Fedora 16,

Hi ,

Im a newbie user in linux fedora 16.. Im unable to login to using my GUI mode in Fedora core 16 and dont know how to proceed further ..please help with an solution..

FYI..

I can able to login through terminal (ctl+alt+f2) via regular user and also as root

but not able to connect as su from my regular user...


Things i done before this pblm :

used the following command chmod -hR apache /var as a root user but from then unable to login to my user using the password when i rebooted system GUI logging is not loading...

That was probably not a good idea. Unless you have a backup of /var with the original permissions/ownerships, I think you have to set up the system from scratch again.

is there anyohter way instead for setting up the os again...

You can try to change permissions by hand, but that's pure trial and error.
