Question ISPConfig reports SMTP-server down, with Roundcube installed

Hey guys,

I just installed a fresh Debian with ISPConfig 3.0.4.1.
Also, I don't like the squirrel webmail, so I installed Roundcube which seems to work just perfectly fine.

Except one thing, ISPConfig reports the SMTP server to be down now and also, I can't send mails either from the server through Roundcube, nor can I send mails to the server.

Both ways trying to send mails seems to "work" no visible error messages, but apparently, the mails don't get through in any direction..

What may be wrong? The error happened both after I installed Roundcube today, but when I think about it, also yesterday.. That's why I reinstalled my OS and now I get the same thing..

Yesterday I used Courier, today I use Dovecot if that says anything? But they're only incoming, not SMTP so..?

What error logs do you need to see to be able to help me out?
In ISPConfig and in Mail Error-log, it's empty..

Mail Warn-log says the following;

Code:
Nov 30 19:05:30 ip-91-123-201-99 dovecot: Killed with signal 15 (by pid=4129 uid=0 code=kill)
Nov 30 19:05:30 ip-91-123-201-99 dovecot: Killed with signal 15 (by pid=4163 uid=0 code=kill)
Nov 30 19:44:17 ip-91-123-201-99 dovecot: Killed with signal 15 (by pid=28815 uid=0 code=kill)
Nov 30 23:37:31 ip-91-123-201-99 postfix/smtpd[20128]: warning: network_biopair_interop: error reading 5 bytes from the network: Connection reset by peer
Dec 1 01:39:08 ip-91-123-201-99 dovecot: dovecot: Killed with signal 15 (by pid=23393 uid=0 code=kill)
01.39:08 was a reboot of the server. 23:37 I have no idea

Mail Log says the following;
Code:

Edit;

Also, I tried with a "telnet localhost 587" and it works;
Code:
root@web:/var/www# telnet localhost 587
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 web.domain.tld ESMTP Postfix (Debian/GNU)

Partly fixed..

It was just the thing that I've changed the port from25 to 587 that makes ISPConfig think that the service is down.. but it isn't
Ok, so that's nothing to worry about.. can you change it in ISPconfig somehow?

However..
I can still not send nor receive mails on the server..?
As before, it seems to work, but then it apparently doesn't... :S

Edit 2..
I've also checked from another machine far away from the server, trying to connect to the server in question both on 587 and 143 for IMAP service and both works.. So the server is accessible..

Changing the port disables mail receiving as other servers cant deliver mail to your system. So your change of the port is the reason thatr you dont receive emails. Please undo the port changes that you did.

If you want to use port 587, then the corect way to enable it is that you remove the # in front of the submission line in postfix master.cf and then restart postfix.

Hey till,
Thanks for your reply!

I didn't know that, I guess.. But when thinking about it, how logical it sounds I guess I was too tired last night
That seems to fix incoming on the server, also outgoing seems to work in some way.. it works to my ISP mail, but it doesn't work to mails on another webhosting company

This could however either be my server, it could be a relay problem on the way and it could be my other webhosting company.

Probably one or both of the last two..

I know that this isn't anything with ISPConfig, but is there something I can try there to see if it is my other "old" webhosting company that has problems?

I also tried sending from my ISP mail to my old webhosting company and that worked.. while sending from my new webhosting to my old, doesn't seem to work or it's delayed quite a bit..

Could it be my new ISPConfig system that delays it? I have nothing in the mail queue log and nothing comes up in the mail warn or error log either
