Following Symlinks

I have ISPConfig installed on my Debian server, with apache. I have roundcube installed under /usr/share/roundcube, and i have a symlink to that in /var/www/roundcube/. If i connect to my server, like so: example.com/roundcube/ roundcube loads without any problems.

Now, i added a symlink to the same roundcube installation dir, but i created it in /var/www/clients/client1/web2/web/roundcube/. When i try to go to the address pointed to that dir i get a 500 Server error.

Why is that and can i somehow repair it?
