Ok, what's in your mail log when you try to send an email to a remote server?

Did you enable "Server requires authentication" in your email client?

Hi,

I have tried using outlook, but I am unsure what settings to use for incoming mail and outgoing mail, So I have used following settings :

Quote:
Incoming mail server is a pop3 server ?
Incoming mail server : mail.example.com ?
Outgoing mail server : mail.example.com ?
Quote:
Account name : john@example.com (same as mailbox created in ispconfig)
Password : johnspassword (same password as mailbox in ispconfig)
Have checked box "my server requires authentication". (is this what you meant?)

Have outgoing mail smtp : port 25
Incoming mail pop3 : port 110

But still dont get incoming external mail, and get the following error when sending email :

Quote:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'john', Server: 'mail.example.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
Thanks very much for your time, its just that I am new to all of this, and need a little help!

Does mail.example.com point to the correct server? You can check that with
Code:
dig mail.example.com

Hi,

The result of dig mail.example.com is

This points to the external ip address of web.example.com (81.192.138.12)rather than the address of mail.example.com.

Then you must change the A record of mail.example.com so that it points to the correct IP.
