Default weird problem display £ signs in web pages

hi all

i my having a problem with displaying £ signs in web pages. When i press the £ sign button on the keyboard and display on my pc its shows fine but when i upload the page(s) to my web server the £ sign shows as a ? sign unless i use the proper html tag for the £ sign then it displays.

is this a problem with apache, i say this becuase on my proper web host i enter just the £ sign by the keyboard button and it works fine.

thanks

What's the default charset on your server?
What's the output of
Code:
env
?

I know this problem with the € sign, that's why I always write "EUR" instead...
