Failover server - is this possible

Hello again HowtoForge users,
I am running ISPconfig 3 on my VPS. I would like to ask you about backup etc. Since i am new with this, please don't be too hard on me.

Ok, i know and also i use backup option on ISPconfig 3 for websites. Now i would like to ask you how is it possible to have another 'backup' server that domain works on it if main server fails.

I have read about it on g00gle and how to's (http://www.howtoforge.com/setting-up...n-debian-lenny and simmilar), but i think it is not what i would need.

How is it possible to do/set/execute... master server copies data to slave server [are done with rsync for example]. This means that when data is changed on master, it copies to slave (time interval used as set in rsync). But how to set that if master fails, domain.tld will go directly to slave server?

Do i need to have another server which is 'specialized' only to tell domain.tld on which server to go as shown on picture two:


Servers are not in same network. How is it with settings (DNS etc)? How can this be done?

You either need a failover IP that can be switched to the backup server if the master fails, or you need a load balancer that detects if the master fails and automatically directs all requests to the slave.
