Default Ispconfig 3 and suggested apache/mysql settings

Hi all.. I am migrating from an older ispconfig 2 install to an ispconfig 3.03 install.
The host machine is quad xeon with 16gb ram, lots of horsepower and memory, it is using openvz with just one vm. I have installed a Debian Lenny vm with all the hardware available. I have run the Perfect Server install for Lenny. No issues, other than recompiling pureftp to deal with the vm issue. I also installed APC.
There will be a total of six sites running. All the sites will be running under fcgid. I have one site that gets 20k PV/day and two others that get 10k PV/day each. Server runs quite nicely under this load, BUT, we have several times during the year when we get the 'slashdot' effect.
What would be the best settings for the apache and mysql servers to deal with the high traffic days?

Thanks for your help.

Rob

If you use cms systems like wordpress or joomla, then install a extension that saves the rendered files as html files on the disk for caching. Thats the best method to deal with high loads.

Regarding mysql optimisation I can recommend this tool:
