Default mail address aliasing

Right now I have postfix relay setup configured through gmail's smtp. Is it possible to have the mail displayed from my server rather then my account at gmail? Whenever I send a email now it shows up like the follow:

To: *********@yahoo.com
Subject: test
Date: Mon, 12 Jun 2006 17:00:36 -0400 (EDT)
From: "root" <********@gmail.com> Add to Address Book Add Mobile Alert
Yahoo! DomainKeys has confirmed that this message was sent by gmail.com.

So is it possible to change the gmail part?

Make sure you set a full email address when sending mails, not just root or any other username.
