EMail Forwarding Server - User LImitations?

Hi all,

Been looking for answer online but not having much luck on finding anything relevant.

Interested in finding out what limitations there would be to the number of virtual users on a postfix system, that is only setup to email forward for a number of virtual domains. When I say limitations I' would be referring say what would the average number of emails be, how many users with this average amount could be comfortably forwarded without the server going into meltdown.

Currently using postfixadmin to admin the site, looking at adding a lot of users, but dont want to go affecting current usage, would look at alternatives if anyone has a better option as well.

Its not enabled yet but would be looking to add spamassasin & a av filter as well, how much would this reduce the processing power re above.

Well, just forwarding won't take much time .. mail enters, checks the forward in the database and there it goes, NEXT!

The more checks (av/spam) you add, the more time it'll take to process one email. I've got an old server that easily handles 500k mails per 24h. it does spam and av scanning of every in-, outgoing mail.

So i don't think you need to worry about a maximum unless you're talking about processing 10k msgs per second.
