Default website needs www to load

Hello All,

I have recently installed ISPCONFIG3 on Ubuntu 10.04 and I must say it works great - paticularly for me who is not overly familier with linux servers as I come from windows however I have a slight problem.

I have a domain abc.com. I add abc.com to ispconfig and that all works fine. I also enable the auto www subdomain. When I type in http://www.abc.com the website comes up no problem however when I type in http://abc.com than it comes up with the original apache 'it Works' site. If I disable the auto www subdomain that the domain does not work either way.

Due to the fact that I am behind a dynamic IP at the moment I am using dyndns - and therefore am not using the dns capabilitys at all. I dont think this should be a problem.

Thanks a lot,

Brian

Dyndns is the problem and not yourserver setup. You need a dns a-record for abc.com and a dns a-record for www.abc.com pointing to the ip of your router.

Default Dead End

Hi,

Thanks a lot for the reply however your soloution does not seem to work due to fact that there is already a dyndns record. This is also evident as when I type in http://abc.com it comes up with the 'itworks' page which is on my computer and is assigned by ISPCONFIG as far as I am aware to all pages and subdomains that are not recognized by the control panel.

Thanks again,

Brian

You need a DNS A-Record for every domain and subdomain that you want to use on your server. Otherweise apache is not able to find out which domain belongs to which website. So this is a problem with your dns.

If you post the names of your websites, we can look them up in dns and tell you if the dns records are correct or not.

Hi,

Sorry about the lenthly reply,

Thanks for the reply you gave me - it did not solve the problem but I now have some direction as it certainly seems that way and what you say makes perfect sense.

Thanks again,

Brian
