Default External USB HD?

I have fedora 5 installed on my box and I want to try out some different distros, I had a spare 20 gig WD internal and I bought an external USB enclosure to put it into. Will it work?
Can I boot seperate distros?

Should work, although I've never tried this with a USB disk.
