Why do you want the DVD? The only benefit is, that it covers all language packs....

Don't be confused, even though DVDs can hold far more data than the typical Ubuntu CD, the main benefit of the DVD downloads is to get access to all of the available language packs. Most people will be fine with the standard CD installer. There are fewer download locations for the DVD images and this list is updated less frequently than for the CD images.

btw it was not that hard (3 clicks and some quick reading) to get there...

I'd say you can expect the next subrelease (9.x) within the next month and the next major release aroun 10/2010 when continuing the past plans in a linear way: https://help.ubuntu.com/

The lifecycle for the serveredition can be found here: http://www.ubuntu.com/products/whati...fits/lifecycle

LTS is pretty interesting for server usage, if you are not that interested in having the newest version of everything.
So in the end the support is just much longer of this version for security patches etc. (LTS := long time support). Afaik it's 5 years of support.
But you won't get any "feature upgrades" during this time, e.g. its rolled out with php5, you won't get an upgrade to php6 (which you even would not get with non LTS just by upgrading to the following normal build)...
