Default Understanding DNS in ISPConfig 3

Please excuse my noob question, but I am at a total loss with this.

I have a domain registered at Domaindiscover, I have created an 'A' record to point to my server, all this works fine.

Now I would like to have my own Nameserver, so I tried to create a NS record on the Domaindiscover and direct this to the ISPConfig3 server, but nothing happens!

When I try to add ns1.mydoman.com as the nameserver for my domain at Domaindiscover, I get an error saying 'Nameserver does not exists'

How do I register my Nameserver?

What am I doing wrong?
