Probably a dumb answer but where am I supposed to look ? Doesn't seem obvious browsing /var/log

I think it's /var/log/syslog, but that depends on your distribution.

Well the only related entry I could locate was:

Is there any directive I could add in the config file to get more verbose logging ?

Can you check if port 53 (TCP and UDP!) is open on the master?

The firewall does explicitly allow TCP and UDP to port 53. Not quite sure how to do an UDP vs TCP portscan (but port 53 is certainly open as lookups are working).
