Default How to recover function has become irrelevant

In ---- Preferences window Logon -> Enable Automatic Login

This function stopped working, perhaps coincidentally following a problem, I would like to reactivate it due to power cuts, so when the computer boots up without my presence would not be waiting for username and password

Note: the login timer works

Sistema operativo Linux Ubuntu 8.04.3 Kernel 2.6.24-24-generic
